The processing of metal and the research activities connected with its expressive potential have always been the focal point of Alessi’s design and production studies. In its almost 100-year history, the Alessi workshop has lived through different ages of metals: from pewter, alpaca, brass and copper in the early years, to steel, introduced in the 1950s and now identifying trait and core business of the company. The “Extra Ordinary Metal” project represents a new interpretation of the metal surface through the use of brass, a material already used by Alessi in the 1930s. Elements of the manufacturing tradition of the Alessi workshops are given a modern twist with an old goldsmith’s technique: Etruscan Granulation.
